Scarborough Charter Secretariat

The Secretariat is responsible for supporting the Inter-Institutional Forum in accomplishing the objectives of the Scarborough Charter on Anti-Black Racism and Black Inclusion in Canadian Higher Education. Our mission is to advance the vision and principles of the Scarborough Charter and to assist member institutions in delivering on their commitments by coordinating national efforts, building institutional capacity, and fostering individual and collective transparency and accountability. We aim to ensure that every signatory institution is equipped, supported, and responsive to their Charter commitments, including creating equitable and inclusive environments where Black students, faculty, and staff can thrive.

The Secretariat’s core functions are to serve as the central hub for collaboration, data sharing, and knowledge exchange among signatory members; support implementation of the Charter’s commitments through communications, capacity building, and coordinated action; profile and amplify success stories, best practices, and institutional progress; and engage partners across government, non-profit, private, and community sectors to strengthen collective response to anti-Black racism and support for Black inclusion in Canadian Higher Education.
